Clinical Supervision For Counsellors
I have been working as a supervisor since 2003, developing an integrative approach to my thinking about supervision issues.
I particularly focus on how you experience your client within the relationship and your counter transference; identifying your client’s current capacity for self-awareness and how to connect with their strength; using your theoretical knowledge and client experience to identify ‘what the work is’ from your position and how to connect this to your client’s goals and current awareness.
For individuals I provide fortnightly supervision at one of my practice addresses. If you are an organisation seeking a group supervisor, I can provide supervision at a venue of your choice.
The experience I offer:
If you are a trainee counsellor I can help you to bridge the theoretical model of your training to the practicality of engaging and working therapeutically with clients, as you develop your individual approach. If you are an experienced counsellor, I can offer a broad palette of thinking and experience to revitalise your client work and work collaboratively to rejuvenate your experience of supervision and develop your inner authority as a counsellor.I draw on Gestalt, Existential, Person Centred, Pellin’s Contribution Training, Psychodynamic and Counselling Research thinking and am influenced by Dr Irvin Yalom, Petruska Clarkson and Peter Fleming’s work (see www.pellin.org.uk).I have specialist experience working with young people, the visually impaired, LGBT issues, sexuality and identity, the socially disadvantaged and clients with multicultural backgrounds. I also draw on the experience of managing and delivering counselling services for the voluntary sector, and working with the limitations this can have on therapeutic work; working within both time limited and open ended counselling contracts.I focus on how we can work effectively together, use creative tools such as art and two-chair work, building on your strength and capability, supporting you when the work goes wrong and promoting your professional growth.Finding a supervisor whose experience, supervisory and relational style is a compatible match with your needs as a supervisee will promote the development of effective, competent and ethical therapeutic practice.

Clinical/ Consultative Supervision for Other Professionals Mentors, helpline workers, advisors, support & substance use workers, service co-ordinators and social care professionals are increasingly accessing and valuing the benefits that supervision can bring to their role and professional development.
A supervisor with an adaptable supervision frame will increase your effectiveness and attend to:
Processing your thoughts and feelings evoked by your work (anxiety, difficulties, 'not knowing', stuckness, & antipathy); this helps to separate out what belongs to you (personally), your client and dynamics of the working relationship. Separating out line management and organisational dynamics from your client work. Increasing your self-confidence and skills to work effectively, tapping into your strength, capability and experience. Providing a supportive space where you decide on the focus and content of each supervision session and we work collaboratively together. Seeing an external supervisor provides some distance from your work setting and an independent space that aids clarity and insight, where the focus is purely on you and your work.
No understanding of therapeutic concepts is required for me to work with you.
Whether you are an individual or an organisation wanting to provide clinical support for your staff, contact me to have a discussion about your particular needs. I can invoice you as an individual or the paying organisation on your behalf, for clinical supervision or consultative work.
